#16Days - Day 10: Reaching Out, Being Heard

Today we’re sharing the words of a survivor who found Coventry Haven Women’s Aid through a GP via the IRISi programme:

“I only went to the doctor for anxiety. I didn’t even know what ‘abuse’ was. My GP asked one gentle question and suddenly everything came out. They gave me Haven’s number… and that phone call changed my life”

Not every survivor walks through our door first. Some speak to their GP.

Some call our helpline: 08001114998.

Some come to a drop-in because they “just want a chat”.

Every route is valid. Every story matters.

Across Coventry, our teams are here to listen, believe and support, wherever that first step happens.

#16Days – Day 9: A Child’s Voice

Today we’re sharing the words of a child who has stayed in our refuge:

“I like it here because we can sleep all night. At my old house I used to stay awake to check if Mum was ok”

No child should ever know that kind of fear.

No child should feel responsible for keeping a parent safe.

Every child deserves rest, safety and the chance to simply be a child.

At Coventry Haven Women’s Aid, we do everything we can to give children fleeing Domestic Abuse warmth, stability, space to play, and a place where they can finally breathe.

Day 8 of #16Days: The Power of Workplace DA Champions

Today we’re highlighting the impact of our Domestic Abuse Champions, professionals across Coventry who step forward to create safer, more informed workplaces and communities.

I’ve learned that the first time someone discloses abuse is often the moment that determines whether they reach safety or turn back. My role is simple but vital: listen without judgement, believe them, and help them take the next step”

Our Champions are trained to recognise signs of abuse, respond safely, and connect survivors to specialist support, ensuring no one has to face disclosure alone.

Their commitment is transforming how organisations and workplaces across Coventry, respond to Domestic Abuse.

Our #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGenderBasedViolence Day 1 - 25th Nov 2025

Today 25th Nov, is also White Ribbon Day – a moment for men to take real, visible action to end violence against women and girls.

Violence doesn’t begin with physical harm. It begins with attitudes…

Dismissal. “Banter.” Excuses. Blame. Silence.

If you are a man, we are asking you to take one simple step today:

Make the White Ribbon Promise: “I will never use, excuse or stay silent about violence against women and girls.”

And then go further:

Challenge harmful jokes and misogyny when you hear them

Call out friends who cross lines

Teach boys that respect isn’t optional

Listen to women when they say they feel unsafe

Don’t stay silent when something feels wrong

Change doesn’t happen by accident – its starts when men choose to act.

We know its 'not all men' but all men need to be a part of the solution.
