Day 1 of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence

During the #16DaysOfActivism, we'll be talking about the specialist services we provide to victims of abuse, and today on day 1, we are looking at our crucial refuge provision.

We have 18 units providing accommodation within safe houses in the city. These houses provide refuge to women and children who are not safe in their own homes, and their location is secret.

Of the 18 units 2 of the units offer fully disabled access and 1 unit offers emergency incident related accommodation to women and their children.

The offer that makes our refuge service, truly 'refuge' is the bespoke support you receive from our fully trained refuge team, who will be there to support you with the things you need. You will be assigned a specialist support worker who will help you to settle in, and provide some clothes, food and toiletries if you need them to help you to settle in more comfortably.

Your worker will also help you with your longer term needs. She can support you with options around housing, schooling, safety and risk planning, benefit entitlements, health issues, parenting, immigration, education, employment and rebuilding your resilience and independence, to give you the tools you need to live a life free from fear.
