Coventry Haven Women’s Aid is horrified by the brutal, racially motivated rape of a Sikh woman in broad daylight in the West Midlands. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with her, her family, friends, and community.
We unequivocally condemn both this act of male violence and the way such crimes of violence against women and girls, are exploited by those seeking to advance racist and anti-migrant agendas.
The use of gender based violence to fuel hate is not new. These narratives silence survivors, create fear, and deter women and children from seeking support, leading to devastating consequences.
At Coventry Haven, we stand in solidarity with all women and children. We remain committed to providing specialist support, so every survivor of male violence and abuse, regardless of background, faith, or status, can seek help in safety and dignity. Everyone deserves to live free from violence, abuse, and fear.
We call on leaders, police, media, and community institutions to challenge and dismantle harmful narratives that exploit gender based violence to divide communities. Everyone deserves a society united against violence, abuse, and hate.
