#16Days - Day 8

Day 8 of #16Days: The Power of Workplace DA Champions

Today we’re highlighting the impact of our Domestic Abuse Champions, professionals across Coventry who step forward to create safer, more informed workplaces and communities.

Quote from a DA Champion:

“Being a Domestic Abuse Champion has changed the way I see and support the people around me. I’ve learned that the first time someone discloses abuse is often the moment that determines whether they reach safety or turn back. My role is simple but vital: listen without judgement, believe them, and help them take the next step”

Our Champions are trained to recognise signs of abuse, respond safely, and connect survivors to specialist support, ensuring no one has to face disclosure alone.

Their commitment is transforming how organisations and workplaces across Coventry, respond to Domestic Abuse.

To our Champions: thank you for the courage, compassion and leadership you show every day.

If your workplace would like to join the DA Champions network or learn more about training, please contact us on 02476444077 or email info@coventryhaven.co.uk

“For years I thought the abuse was my fault. CHWA helped me understand it never was” - Survivor

Survivors rely on specialist organisations like ours that understand trauma, coercive control, and the long road back to safety.

To every woman who has found her voice and every woman still waiting for a safe moment to reach out, we are here.

If you’re worried about your safety, or someone else’s, please call the #SafeToTalk #Helpline:

Day 4 - #16daysofactivism

"People think you just pack a bag and go. You don’t. You leave the moment it’s safe enough, and even then you feel terrified. Cov Haven didn’t judge me for staying, they supported me when I finally could leave" - Survivor

Our #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGenderBasedViolence Day 1 - 25th Nov 2025

Today 25th Nov, is also White Ribbon Day – a moment for men to take real, visible action to end violence against women and girls.

Violence doesn’t begin with physical harm. It begins with attitudes…

Dismissal. “Banter.” Excuses. Blame. Silence.

If you are a man, we are asking you to take one simple step today:

Make the White Ribbon Promise: “I will never use, excuse or stay silent about violence against women and girls.”

And then go further:

Challenge harmful jokes and misogyny when you hear them

Call out friends who cross lines

Teach boys that respect isn’t optional

Listen to women when they say they feel unsafe

Don’t stay silent when something feels wrong

Change doesn’t happen by accident – its starts when men choose to act.

We know its 'not all men' but all men need to be a part of the solution.

Join us and take the pledge today: www.whiteribbon.org.uk/promise

Women and Girls Fund Award - Heart of England Foundation

Coventry Haven Women’s Aid awarded grant from Women and Girls Fund to empower women and girls across Coventry

Coventry Haven Women’s Aid is delighted to announce that it has received funding from the Women and Girls Fund, delivered by the Heart of England Community Foundation.

The donation will support our specialist empowerment and safety programme for women and girls subjected to, or at risk of, domestic abuse; helping them build confidence, independence, and long-term stability. The project will provide tailored emotional support, safety planning, wellbeing activities, and early-intervention work to prevent harm and strengthen resilience.

The Foundation raised £50,000 for the fund and matched it with £50,000 of its own to create this dedicated pot of funding, designed to support projects that uplift, empower, and create opportunities for women and girls across the West Midlands and Warwickshire. Ten organisations received grants to help tackle inequality and strengthen local communities.

Jaime Richards, Development & Funding Officer at Coventry Haven Women’s Aid, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful for this support. Every day, women and girls come to us feeling frightened, isolated or unsure of their next steps. This funding means we can reach even more survivors with the safety, guidance and empowerment they deserve. It will help us offer hope, practical support, and space to rebuild, free from abuse.”

Tina Costello OBE, CEO of the Heart of England Community Foundation, said:

“The Women and Girls Fund is about backing the brilliant local organisations that are already creating change for women and girls in their communities.”

“We’re proud to support projects that offer safety, confidence and opportunity for women across our region.”
